No Banter, Please at Toronto (November 4th, 2018)

Post by everdiso »

The University of Toronto will be hosting No Banter, Please, a trash tournament written by a set of Canadians including the author of this post, on Sunday, November 4th, 2018, the day after our mirror of ACF Fall. More information about No Banter, Please can be found in the global announcement.

Logistics

The tournament will begin at 9:00 a.m. on Sunday, November 4th. It will take place on the second floor of Sidney Smith Hall, on the west side of St. George Street slightly south of Harbord, about a 5-minute walk south from St. George subway station. Control will be room 2127, so please head there upon arriving. Note that the tournament will begin at 9:00 a.m. sharp, so all players should be in the control room by 8:45. If you are at all late, the tournament will still start at 9:00 without you.

Prices and Payment

Base fee: $120
Shorthanded discount: $20 per missing player.
Buzzer discount: $10 per functioning system
Travel discount: $10 if at least three players on the team (or all of the players on a smaller team) are at least 200 kilometres away from U of T.
Early payment discount: $10 if you pay me online by Thursday, November 1st (or, like, fucking mail a cheque that gets to me by then or something, I guess??). E-transfers can be sent to [email protected].
Penalty: $10 will be added to your fee per buzzer set that you sign up to bring but show up without. This will not apply if you let me know beforehand (this does not mean the morning of or night before) that you won't be bringing them.

Payment will be accepted in etransfer, cash or cheque made out to "University of Toronto Academic Trivia Club".

In addition, staffers will get a free lunch up to $15 as long as they show up on time to start round 1 at 9:00 and the first round after lunch at the time it is set for.

Registration

To register, message me on Facebook or email me at either [email protected] or [email protected]. Include the names of players on your team (as many as you know at the time) and any discounts you might qualify for in the email or message, as well as a team name . Hello, all banterers. This is the logistics post for tomorrow.

The tournament will be held at Sidney Smith Hall, on the west side of St. George Street slightly south of Harbord, about a 5-minute walk south from St. George subway station. 2127 (on the second floor) will be the control room. The tournament will begin at 9:00 a.m. sharp. Please arrive by 8:40 to set up. We were delayed yesterday by multiple teams and staffers showing up late, and I don't want that to happen again today.

Anyone who has not yet paid me can pay me in the control room in the morning. If you are paying me by cash on site, PLEASE ARRIVE BY 8:30 so we can get it sorted out quickly. In addition, to all those bringing buzzers, please arrive by 8:40 to set them up.

Schedules will be sent to each team tonight.

Finally, a reminder that there is an extra hour tonight! Clocks are falling back an hour, so take advantage and get a bit more sleep. But this also means that you especially should not be late on a morning when you're spotted a whole hour. If players are late either for round 1 or for the first round after lunch, we will start without you. If staffers are late either for round 1 or for the first round after lunch, you will forfeit your $15 of lunch money (which will be sent out via e-transfer after the tournament).

I strongly, strongly recommend that people mirror this tournament. It is extremely well-written (with a few hiccups here and there as virtually every tournament will inevitably have) and occupies a nice place probably midway between regular and super ACRONYMs difficulty-wise.

As a warning, it does contain a fair amount of internet/meme content, which I still personally found fun as a non-dank 30-something.
