Quizlr: a new study resource

Post by Jennifer Osborne »

Hi everyone,

On behalf of myself, Aryaman Tummalapalli (SAS ‘16), and Soumil Mukherjee (SAS ‘18), I’d like to release quizlr.net here for beta testing. The site is a quiz study resource we developed together, allowing you to create digital notecards and share them with members of your team via a school account, test yourself on clues you find difficult, and more. You can read more about what quizlr can do on our homepage (http://quizlr.net/home/), or watch our video tutorial (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dJ9KsFWZsa4 ). Please try it out, and we’d love to hear your feedback and any suggestions you have for future improvement.

Neat, but if you consider yourselves the best quizbowl resource since protobowl that's a pretty low bar to set

Whoops, that was a joke header we added months ago and forgot to remove... thanks for spotting it.

I'm excited about the opportunity to beta-test this. It seems like a good tool!

This is great! I like how I can organize my notes, but put much more than can fit in a normal flashcard.

One suggestion: Do you plan to provide image hosting? Right now, I have to link to an external URL to add an image, but I'm worried that the websites I link to may go down.

Also, it would be useful if flash cards could be automatically collapsed at a maximum length and then expanded again, so that you can see multiple flash cards in a page even if they're all very long.

We're glad you like Quizlr! We think flashcards lend themselves to digital format nicely.

In regards to your suggestions, we may add image hosting, we're not sure yet. But thank you for your suggestion about making notecards collapsible, will try to implement that soon.

In the meantime, we hope you continue to enjoy using Quizlr!

Quizlr is down. Are you guys aware of the bug (it has something to do with MySQL)?

Sorry for double-posting, but the bug has been miraculously fixed. Please disregard my previous post. I thought in hindsight it might have had something to do with the fact that I was trying to access it on my school-provided Chromebook, but it works on it too now, thankfully!)

Thanks for letting us know, but no need to worry– the site was simply down for maintenance.

Thanks for letting me know. I am a big fan of this program, as you can use it to keep track of other people's studying progress. We're using it as an accountability tool for our team, and I really like it. It's kind of silly that I went into panic mode over simple site maintenance, but I missed quizlr after only two days' use.

When using it on safari, it still gives me a "There was an error with your data, please check that your browser's javascript is enabled." message even though my javascript is already enabled.

Yes it is! We are currently working on a function that allows graduating players to transfer all their notecards to their new school while leaving a copy behind for their continuing team members to use as a resource, as well as making a quizlr app to improve mobile accessibility. Let us know if you have any other suggestions.

This is really cool! I've already made a bunch of cards and I like how you can display a lot of information compared to quizlet or something. However, when I try to practice with them it displays an error message, any ideas on why that might be happening/how to fix it?

Make sure the information you want to practice with is bolded, otherwise it won't recognize it as information you want to practice with
