North Louisiana Middle School Kickoff @ La Tech (10/25/14)

Post by Mnemosyne »

The Louisiana Tech University Quiz Bowl Team is pleased to announce the North Louisiana Middle School Kickoff! This tournament will be held on the campus of Louisiana Tech University in Ruston, Louisiana on October 25, 2014. The tournament is targeted at students in grades 6-8, though any student in 8th grade or below may participate. The question set used for this tournament will be NAQT [MS-11].

Registration + Fees:

The base tournament registration fee per team is $70.
Discount for a working, 8-player, lockout buzzer system: -$15 (maximum one discount, but please bring as many buzzers as possible)
Discount for volunteer staff member: -$5 (maximum one discount, but extra volunteers are always welcome)
Minimum fee per team: $50

To register for the tournament, email me at ncollins93 (at) gmail (dot) com with the number of teams, buzzers, and staffers you’ll be bringing, as well as a name and phone number for someone to contact on the day of the tournament. Payment may be made with cash or check. Make checks payable to “Louisiana Tech Quiz Bowl Team.”

Field Cap and Registration Deadlines:

The field for this tournament is currently capped at 8 teams. The field may expand as we secure buzzer systems and moderators for the tournament. Until Friday, October 3rd, each school may only register one team. Beginning October 3rd, schools may register additional teams. Registration will close on Tuesday, October 21st.

Location and Time:

This tournament will take place on the second floor of Davison Hall on Louisiana Tech’s campus. Tournament registration will begin at 8:00 AM with the competition starting at 8:30 AM. If there are no delays, the competition should end between 3:00 and 4:00 PM. There will be a lunch break at approximately noon. Because Ruston is a small town with many eateries close to campus, teams may travel to local restaurants during the lunch break.

Format:

The tournament’s format will depend on the number of teams registered and will be communicated to the teams closer to the tournament date. The format will likely be either a round robin or a similar format.

Awards:

The top two teams will receive trophies, and the top individual players will receive prizes as well.

Any team finishing in the top 15% of the field will qualify for NAQT’s Middle School National Championship Tournament to be held in Dallas, Texas on May 8-10, 2015.

I’d love to answer any questions you have, so don’t hesitate to ask!
