Listening in on pre-tournament preparation in Class AA right now. I'd swear I can hear Sister John's voice. I wonder if she's moderating Class AA this year.

It appears the first game will be Macomb vs. North Ridge, so, assuming they webcast from the same room the whole way, there will be no Prairie, Morton, Martino, and Rochester in the first 3 rounds.

The single-most important pre-tournament preparation? One of the coaches telling everyone to turn off their cell phones.

If the moderator IS Sister John, she has a broken wrist. The audience just got to hear her describe her fall. Bummer. But she's definitely a trooper for moderating anyway, no?

The cell phone reminder is important, since Sister John's cell phone once went off during a match. And she does have a broken wrist.

And it is Sister John Baricevic SSND, an instructor at Southwest Illinois College.

Her assistant is Jared. If I had to guess, it's Jared Ploger of Bolingbrook Addams, member of the IESA AdCo.

She's going over introductions now.

North Ridge scores a factually inaccurate toss-up on "autism."
>_<
OK, I really have to go now.

I'll probably facepalm for this but ... how was it factually inaccurate?

Not recalling the exact wording, but, as I heard it, the question referred to it as being "related to Asperger's Syndrome." Umm... Asperger's Syndrome IS on the Autism Spectrum.

Prairie blasted Martino, 305-60
Macomb outlasted North Ridge by about 150.

Martino vs. Rochester coming right up.

The Class A moderator whose room you can listen to was borderline painful to listen to. Aside from being very slooowwww, poem was pronounced as "poym", and clavier as in the Well Tempered Clavier came out as "claw-vee-air" . The other notable one was "paw-taw-muck" for the Potomac river.

Listening to Sister John is so much better (she moderated a few matches I played in high school so I may be a bit biased).

On the autism spectrum does not mean it IS autism. The autism spectrum is the spectrum of disorders related to autism, including autism itself.

But, as I've understood it, would it be correct to categorize Asperger's as RELATED to autism? Put another way, how would YOU write a question where the answer line is autism and you are using Asperger's Syndrome as a clue?

Congratulations to Normal Metcalf and Barrington Prairie for claiming state championships in Class A and AA, respectively, in the Illinois Elementary School Association's State Tournament Series of Scholastic Bowl. Prairie's state championship comes on the heels of taking 7th place at the MSNCT. Metcalf and Prairie have, in fact, played this year...
