Cedar Shoals MS Jag Bowl (Mar 5, 2011)

Post by CSQuizJags »

After trying to figure out a good date, we can announce we'll be holding our 2nd MS Jag Bowl March 5, 2011 (yes, I know this is the same day as the History Bowl and Bee, but it's the only day we could do it.) I'll announce more detailed info soon, but thought it wise to go ahead and post the date.

Basic framework: 20 team cap (which could change), Single Elim Playoff, using Bainbridge's MS packets.
Cedar Shoals HS Academic Team:
2011, 2012, and 2013 Classic City Academic Team Champions
2014 Region 8-AAAAA Varsity and JV Champions
2013 GATA Class AAAAA JV State Champions
2014 WSB-TV HighQ Tournament Champions

Here's the official announcement

Cedar Shoals HS announces its 2nd annual MS Jag Bowl, to be held in Athens, GA, on Saturday, March 5, 2011. We will be using the packets from the Bainbridge HS “Quizkitten” Tournament held in the Fall of 2010. Questions will cover the basic four groups (Science, Social Studies, Math and English/Literature) and include some popular culture. The packets are not in same vein as the PAGE Bowl (for those who play it) but are more in line with the current form and style of MS quizbowl across the US.

Teams may consist of players grades 6-8 and have five players on a team. Teams may sub players at the halfway point of the round or in between rounds. Rounds will consist of 10/10 TUs/bonuses.

Tournament format will be a random prelim system (rounds and number of teams TBD) followed by a single elimination playoff of the top 16 teams. Award plaques will be given to the top four teams.

Entry fee for the tournament will be $65 per team (schools may enter as many teams as they wish until we reach the cap on total number of teams). There is a $5 discount (limit two per team) if you can bring a reader and/or a worker.

We are looking to fill 20 team slots to begin with, but may expand the field to more teams if we can secure more readers and workers.

If you’re interested or have any questions, feel free to email us at [email protected] if you wish to sign up! Thanks and we look forward to seeing you in March.

Congrats to the following top 4 teams at the Cedar Shoals MS Jag Bowl II

1- Oglethorpe Co
2- North Gwinnett A
3- North Gwinnett B
4- Malcolm Bridge

Full stats will be posted on the team's ScoBo page: http://results.scobo.net/cedarshoalshs

MS Jag Bowl III is tentatively scheduled for sometime in October 2011 (either 15th or 22nd) and, God and NAQT willing, will use the NAQT MS sets, making this a qualifier for the MSNCT. Plus, a small portion of the profit will go to the Cedar Shoals MS (Multiple Sclerosis this time) Walk fundraiser on behalf of the team. It's a cause recently near and dear to my heart (and central nervous system!). :)
