Specializing for the college level

Post by NickLarson8 »

Do any experienced players have recommendations about a way to specialize for quiz bowl at the college level? I have performed well at the high school level, but I know my skill set would be significantly less valuable in college given that I am more of a generalist and don't have very deep knowledge in a specific category. I have done some in-depth studying for literature and made progress, but nothing very significant yet.

If literature is what interests you the most, go ahead and download a bunch of college packets, read them, and look up every lit clue and answerline you haven't heard of. In the fall when you go to your first college practice, figure out what the teams weaknesses are and see if you can specialize in those. That's a great way to contribute and earn the gratitude of your teammates!

I went from sitting in practice one day and hearing my teammates complain that we never get the religion tossups to editing religion for ACF Nationals just a few years later.
