Congratulations to James Mullen of Team USA (Cupertino, CA - Monta Vista High School) for finishing best in the world - 1st place out of 144 students - at the 2014 International Geography Olympiad in Krakow, Poland! Congratulations as well to Anton Karpovich of IMSA for winning a silver medal (i.e. finishing in the top quarter) and to Tine Valencic of Grapevine High School in Texas for winning a bronze (i.e. for finishing in the top half). Assisted by David Yuan of Lexington HS in Massachusetts, Team USA finished 10th overall out of 36 teams (up from 14th out of 32 last year).
Thanks to Raynell Cooper for co-coaching and to everyone who competed in the US Geography Olympiad in 2013-14 and helped make this remarkable achievement for American students on the world stage possible. Look for an announcement regarding the start of the 2014-15 US Geography Olympiad within two weeks.
