Acton-Boxborough Quiz Bowl is happy to announce the Acton-Boxborough Winter Invitational Tournament (ABWIT) on January 5, 2019.

REGISTRATION
All high school quiz bowl teams are invited to register. Our current field cap is 24 teams.

Please complete registration here: https://www.naqt.com/registration/fees. ... t_id=10236
OR email [email protected] and include the number of teams, staffers, and buzzer systems.

If there are any issues or additional pieces of information, email Susan Ervais-Bohmiller at [email protected].

LOGISTICS
ABWIT will take place at Acton-Boxborough Regional High School (36 Charter Road Acton, MA). We will run check-in from 8:00 to 8:45 AM in the cafeteria before convening for a brief opening meeting that will begin the tournament. We would like to begin game-play at 9:00 AM. The tournament should end around 5:00 PM. All teams are guaranteed 10 rounds of play; plan is for 5 rounds before lunch, reseeded rounds after lunch; advantaged final if necessary. We might need to tweak this based on number of teams in field.

FORMAT
In every round, each team will have the opportunity to answer twenty toss-up questions. The team that answers a given toss-up question correctly will subsequently be given a three-part bonus question to be answered solely by the members of that team. Fifteen point powers, no computational math. Teams may have 1-6 players on it (4 at a time, 2 subs). Schools cannot swap members between teams during the tournament. Late arrival players must be on the roster at registration and presumed to “sit-out” until arrival. Schools with seven or more people on a team will be asked to create a second team.

LUNCH OPTIONS
There are several restaurants and fast food places within a 10 minute drive, but few that are a quick walking distance. We will have a Team Pizza deal - $15 gets your team a large cheese pizza and 4 bottles of water. You can pay on the morning of the tournament. You’re also free to make your own arrangements of course.

THE SET
ABWIT will be using IS-181.

NATIONAL TOURNAMENTS
The top 15% of the field will be qualified for HSNCT. We are a PACE platinum-certified tournament, which means teams competing here can also qualify for PACE's NSC.

FEES
The fees for this tournament are as follows:

$80 for the first team
$70 for all other teams
$15 for lunch special
−$5 discount per working buzzer system
−$10 discount per staffer provided

Payment in cash or check is expected at registration when an invoice will be provided. Please let us know if you prefer to pay early or need an early invoice. Please make all checks out to “Acton-Boxborough Regional High School”, and include "AB Quiz Bowl" in the memo section.

We hope to see you there!
