David L. Riley Memorial Kickoff (IHSSBCA Kickoff) at Homewood-Flossmoor

Post by msacks »

Homewood-Flossmoor will be hosting a site of the David L. Riley Memorial Kickoff tournament, sponsored by the Illinois High School Scholastic Bowl Coaches Association.

Date: Saturday, November 17, 2018.

Location: Homewood-Flossmoor Community High School, 999 Kedzie Ave., Flossmoor, IL 60422

Eligibility: Teams of players who all attend a single high school are eligible to attend. For each school that enters a team, at least one person affiliated with that team must join the IHSSBCA, but one affiliated person being a member is sufficient to register multiple teams. Teams from out of state are welcome (but still must have an affiliated person join IHSSBCA).

Questions: NAQT IS Set #179

Structure: The field limit and format is in flux until 11/3; every team will play at least eight matches. Please contact Michael Sacks at msacks AT hf233 DOT org with any questions.

Rules: The tournament will use IHSSBCA rules. In brief: 5-on-5, powers, no negs, rebounding bonuses, tossup-bonus-cycle tiebreakers, roster cap of 8.

Money: The base fee is $55 for the first team from each school, and $50 for each subsequent team. The only available discount is if you bring a moderator who can moderate away from your team, it's a $40 discount per moderator (if moderators want to be paid directly, they will be paid a minimum of $40, final remuneration TBD). Teams are expected to bring whatever functional buzzer systems they have available, and coaches should be prepared to scorekeep (moderate only if there's unforeseen circumstance). All checks are to be made out to Homewood-Flossmoor High School, and payment must be received at or before the tournament. If financial issues stand between your team and attending this tournament, contact me to discuss possible arrangements.

Format (will be updated on here every 1-2 weeks): Two divisions, a standard division and a novice division (all players must be Novices as determined by IHSSBCA definition). A teams are strongly encouraged to play standard.
