Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology is pleased to announce the inaugural Thomas Jefferson Novice Academic Tournament (TJNAT) on November 17th, 2018.

QUESTION SET:
The tournament will using IS-175A, a question set produced by NAQT. This will be a good opportunity for new teams to play introductory-level questions.

TJNAT's current field cap is 24, but this may be increased depending on room availability. We will be limiting registrations to a maximum of 3 teams per school. Please sign up by 11/10/2018. Teams will be limited to at most 6 people, so schools planning to bring more than 6 students should register another team. During the rounds, up to 4 students are permitted to play at any given time, and up to 2 students can sub out at halftime. Teams may have fewer than 4 people.

ELIGIBILITY: Any player who has less than two years of high school Quizbowl experience is eligible. Any player part of a school who is in their first year of playing pyramidal, non-VHSL quizbowl is automatically eligible, and able to redeem a new school registration discount. We ask that experienced teams use discretion when creating rosters, and we reserve the right to request rosters in order to check eligibility.

LOGISTICS:
Registration will begin at 8:30 AM, and the opening meeting will start at 9:15 AM. We will explain the rules and regulations, and basic breakfast foods will be provided. Pizza will be available for order in the morning. The tournament will be held at TJHSST (6560 Braddock Road, Alexandria, VA 22312). Our tournament is set for November 17th if weather permits, but if not, we will reschedule for a later date.

FEES:
Registration fees per team:
$70 for schools that regularly participate in pyramidal quizbowl
$45 for schools that are new to pyramidal quizbowl

DISCOUNTS:
-$5 per each fully functional buzzer set, defined as having at least 8 working buzzers

Minimum registration fees:
$45 for schools that regularly participate in pyramidal quizbowl
$20 for schools that are new to pyramidal quizbowl

Registration fees can be paid through cash or by check. Checks should be made payable to TJHSST Quizbowl with your school’s name and Registration Fee in the memo line. While payment the day of the tournament is preferable, mailing it in advance will work as well.
