West Point Kickoff Invitational - SCOTTIE Mirror - Aug. 25

Post by quizbowllee »

West Point High School in Cullman, AL will be hosting a "Kickoff Tournament" on August 25, 2018. This tournament will be a mirror of the SCOTTIE Invitational being held and written by Glasgow High School in Kentucky.

The tournament will be open to all players 12th grade and below. There will likely be a separate division for JV teams if there is enough interest.

Registration will be $65 per team, with a $5 per team discount for bringing a set of FULLY-FUNCTIONING buzzers!

This tournament is very early in the school year, so PLEASE let me know ASAP if you plan to attend so that I can make sure that we have enough rooms, buzzers, and moderators.

Thank you all. I hope to see you on Aug. 25!

Stats are up, but slightly misleading due to the need to add a couple of extra games:

http://www.hsquizbowl.org/db/tournament ... all_games/

Actual Results:

1st Place - Eastside, GA
2nd Place - Southside
3rd Place - Liberty Middle (That's correct. 8th graders dominated much of this field.)
4th Place - West Point

We used power-matching. After 7 rounds, Eastside was undefeated and easily the winner. Southside had one loss (to Eastside) and Liberty had 2 losses (both to Eastside). Since Southside and Liberty had not played each other, we had an advantaged 2nd Place match. Southside won the first match and took 2nd. West Point and Sylacauga A were tied for 4th and had not played each other, so they played a single "4th place" match, which West Point won.

The tournament went very well and the set was good. Huge, enormous thanks to Glasgow and Coach Garrison for letting us use the set!
