UC-San Diego Quiz Bowl is pleased to announce Triton Winter-ish at UCSD:

LOCATION: 9500 Gilman Dr., La Jolla, California, 92093.

EDIT: This will be taking place at the Center Hall building--an email has been sent out with a map and new parking directions

We are most likely using our usual spot at the Humanities and Social Sciences Building. We will send out additional information to registered teams as the tournament approaches by contact email, the SoCalQB Facebook group, and this post.

DATE: The tournament will be held on Saturday, March 7. Check-in begins at 8:00 am, and first round should begin around 9 am. Schedules will be distributed at check-in.

FORMAT: The tournament will mirror Yale BHSAT. The tournament will adhere to Official NAQT Rules, with the exception that each round will be run as two untimed, 10-question halves and you will be given 5 seconds to answer after buzzing on a tossup. The format will consist of a preliminary round robin followed by reseeding based on results from the round robin phase. Seedings in the individual sub-brackets will be determined by the overall win-loss record. Ties in preliminary brackets will be resolved based on points per bonus, followed by points per game.

ELIGIBILITY: All high school students are welcome to attend.

PRICING STRUCTURE:
Base fee = $80 for one team, $70 per team after the first

Discounts will be given as follows:
-$5 for each fully-functional buzzer system (must have at least four working buzzers on both sides)
-$10 for traveling distances over 100 miles, according to Google Maps
-$10 moderator discount
-$30 per team for schools that have not competed in a decent, mACF-style or NAQT tournament in the past 2 years.
Minimum fee = $60/team

Please make checks payable to San Diego Quizbowl. Please do not make a check out to any other person or entity. Checks, or cash will be due at the start of the tournament during registration. Should your team not be able to provide the payment at this time, and would like to send their registration fee in advance or later, please contact the Tournament Director at [email protected] to make the proper arrangements.

PRIZES: Book prizes will be offered to the top teams, as well as to the top individual scorers. In addition, the name of the top scorer will be engraved into the David Hu Memorial plaque in honor of David Hu of Rancho Bernardo High School, who sadly passed away in January 2012 in his senior year.

Final standings:

1) Arcadia A (12-0)
2) La Jolla A (11-1)
3) Arcadia B (9-3; 430.4 PPG)
4) Westview A (9-3; 403.8 PPG)
5) Torrey Pines A (9-3; 385.4 PPG)

Arcadia A won by clearing the field 12-0 in a single 13-team round robin. La Jolla placed 2nd with 11-1. Arcadia B, Westview A, and Torrey Pines A ended in a circle of death at 9-3 each, which was broken by PPG (every team was in the same pool). The deciding match between Arcadia A and La Jolla A was a nail-biter, with both teams tied at 320-320 after tossup 18.
