Millbrook High Fall Quiz Bowl Tourne(Raleigh), Oct. 25, 2014

Post by cblankenship »

Millbrook High School invites all teams to our Fall Quiz Bowl Tournament on Saturday, October 25, 2014. We are an NAQT qualifier for the top 15% of teams. We will be using an INTRODUCTORY set of questions (IS-137-A) for high school competitors and a middle school set (MS-10) for middle schools. This a great event for newer teams looking to gain experience. PACE certification is in process.

Please register at http://tinyurl.com/fall-ncasa2014-millbrook. The fee structure is $60 for the first team and $50 for each subsequent team, with discounts available for buzzer systems, distance traveled (more than 200 miles), and staffer (if used). Contact coach Christy Blankenship, [email protected], with questions.

This tournament has both middle school and high school divisions (depending on registration) and will take place from 8:15 AM to 4:00 PM. The tournament is open to any school that wishes to attend. All meetings and matches will take place at Millbrook High School in Raleigh, NC.

AFFLIATION AND QUESTIONS: We will use NAQT Introductory Questions (NAQT set #IS-137-A for high school, MS-10 for middle school). The tournament will serve as an unofficial NAQT event, and as such, the top 15% of the field will qualify for the NAQT High School National Championship. We are also looking to affiliate with the PACE National Tournament. Our spring tournament was gold certified and we expect this one to be the same.

FORMAT: The tournament field size will be capped at 24 teams for high school, no cap for middle school division. The teams will be divided into preliminary brackets, and then will be rebracketed into playoff brackets. Specific schedule details will be sent to registered teams by October 18. Our goal is to allow each team to play 9 games. Each match will consist of 2 un-timed halves, with each half consisting of 10 buzzer tossup questions. We will have powers and negs, but no bouncebacks on bonuses.

REGISTRATION: To register, please visit http://tinyurl.com/fall-ncasa2014-millbrook Please email coach Christy Blankenship ([email protected]) if you have questions. Soon after you complete your registration, you will receive a confirmation e-mail. Registration fees may be mailed in advance or paid at the tournament. Checks should be made out to “Millbrook High School.” For the purposes of tournament organization, our registration will run until October 17th—please send in your registration information by that date.

FEE STRUCTURE:
Base fee: $60 for first team, $50 for additional teams
Buzzer discount: $10 off school's total fee for each fully functional system (control box and eight activators all work). MAXIMUM OF 2 PER SCHOOL.
Staff discount: $10 off school's total fee. This could be a coach, parent, student who is not playing, etc. Team-provided staffers will keep score for various games not involving the team with which they are affiliated. Volunteer staffers must stay through all the games (except finals) in order to receive credit for their school. You may have only one staffer count for your discount.
Travel discount: $10 off school’s total fee for traveling over 200 miles (as determined by Google Maps).

METHOD OF PAYMENT: All teams must pay on or before the day of the tournament (see above note on the discount). We would prefer that you send in your payment before the tournament, but will also accept payment in person right before the tournament starts. Teams who do not pay on or before the day of the tournament will be charged a $25 penalty and will have two weeks to pay their total amount before we start mailing letters to your school administration about it. Cash or check accepted.

TEAM & ROSTER SIZE: There may be a maximum of six players on one team's roster, up to four of whom may play at one time, with no exceptions. If you bring more than six players, you must register a second team to have all of them play. There is a halftime substitution opportunity in each game. Each player may appear on only one team's roster throughout the day-no switching from the B team to the A team, etc. Teams may also play shorthanded with only three players.

FOOD: Neither breakfast nor lunch will be provided by the tournament though snacks will be available for purchase. Millbrook High School is located near many fast food options, some of which deliver. A dining guide will be provided in advance of the tournament and again at registration.

We look forward to seeing your team on October 25!
