MCMC 10-Year Jubilee

Post by mmillerj3782 » Wed Aug 22, 2018 8:32 am

Monroe County Middle College would like to formally invite you and your team to the first ever Monroe County quiz bowl tournament: The MCMC 10-Year Jubilee.

Our tournament will be held on Saturday, October 13th at the Monroe County ISD, located at 1101 S. Raisinville Rd. Monroe,MI 48161. We will be using the NAQT set IS-176A and have a hard cap of 16 teams due to space restrictions. The purpose of this tournament is to introduce more teams in southeast Michigan/northeast Ohio to pyramidal quiz bowl. There will be no "novice" restriction, so we will rely on teams to consider the skill level of their players and understand that there may be many new teams.

Teams in the top 15% will qualify for the NAQT HSNCT. Small schools (as defined by NAQT) in the top 30% will qualify for the NAQT SSNCT. PACE qualifications will be requested once more information about the field size is known.

Full cost: $80
Additional teams: $75
Functioning buzzer: $-5 (capped at the first 4)
Experienced moderator(s): $-10
*Distance: $-10
**New to quiz bowl: $-15
Minimum cost: $-50

*100 miles one-way
**Has not played a pyramidal quiz bowl tournament in the last two years

All checks can be addressed to Monroe County Middle College.

A team will consist of no less than one (1) and no more than eight (8) players. Only four players may be in play at one time, but substitutions are not required at any point.

Registration
Teams must register using this form: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1FX3fv- ... s=5b749822 Any questions can be directed to Michael Miller (MCMC coach) at michael.miller3782@gmail.com or Aleija Rodriguez (MCMC team captain) at arodriguez35099@my.monroecc.edu. It is recommended that you keep one of the two CC'ed to make sure everyone is in the loop.

Day-plan
Team registrations will begin at 8 AM and games will begin at 9 AM. Please make sure you are on time or you will forfeit your first match to ensure a timely tournament. Lunch will be around 12 PM. There are numerous fast food places in Monroe, feel free to ask for suggestions. All competition should end around 5 PM. Number of games will be better-known once we have a better idea of the field size.

Feel free to contact us with any questions. We hope to see many of you in October!

I've received a few emails from teams interested in attending the tournament and I would just like to post a reminder that the Google Form found in the original post must be used. This is so we can discern who is actually planning on attending and who just has questions and is still considering. Thank you!

Here is the form again: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1FX3fv- ... s=5b749822

We've just received Qualifier status for the 2019 PACE NSC! The top 10% of teams will qualify for the 2019 NSC, information about which can be found here: http://www.pace-nsc.org/2019-nsc-announcement/ .

We've amended the stipulation that schools can only register one team. Schools are no longer limited in the amount of teams they bring. We hope this will encourage more teams to attend and assuage any concerns about limitations.

With 3 weeks before this tournament, we still have 6 spots we would love to see filled. We will be closing registration at 11:59 on October 5th (14 days from now) to allow time to create schedules. Just as a reminder, schools are no longer limited to one team at a time . If you have any questions, please contact one or both of the people listed in the original post (one of them being myself). Thank you, and we hope to see many of you in Monroe this October!

We are lowering the cap to 12 teams due to a difficulty in obtaining enough staff for a full 16. This cap may be raised if we get more staffers, but this is not guaranteed. Given this, we currently have 1 remaining spot and all additional teams will be waitlisted. Also, I will add a list of teams that have expressed interest but have not yet filled out the Google Form.

An early logistics email was sent out yesterday. Please let us know if you didn't receive an email or have any questions. Also, the list of registered and waitlisted teams is accurate as of today at the time this post was made.
