Re: Are college quiz bowl questions too long?

Like 5-6 years ago, didn't they actually start tracking where in a question people buzzed at some tournaments, and didn't the stats show that very few people were buzzing on early clues? Erik is right about this being a not fully accurate summary. But also, it doesn't really serve as evidence in fa...

I actually haven't noticed anyone saying that they're put off by information that they don't know, and I wouldn't want anyone to come away from this post with that idea. I agree that your initial post didn't say that, and I actually agree with much of what you said in that post. But both threads br...

Re: Some Thoughts on Bonuses

On the topic of experimental changes to bonus design, I had one such idea recently: always ordering bonuses easy-medium-hard, and ending them after a team misses one part. The idea would be to save teams that don’t know much about a subject from sitting through two questions way above their level b...

On August 11th, in a Discord conversation about Agatha Christie, I told Grace Liu that I'd been waiting years to get a science buzz off of poison in her novels. Maintaining Player Privacy during the Registration Process

This worry is not purely speculative. People can (and, in some cases, have) obtained cont...

I think Ike's idea but I would add the caveat that performance playing vs empty chairs will be significantly better than performance in a room of 8 people, so results should not be compared 1:1.
