I honestly think mixing and matching state teams won't help all that much, except in cases almost extreme imbalance, like maybe a very good science player from TJ joining Gov. The natural advantage I think will go to teams that have a pretty good chance of remaining intact, like Hunter or State Coll...

As just an addendum to what Jack said, I found the mythology overwhelmingly Greek. Aside from toss-ups on Thor and Canopic Jars, I don't think there was any Norse or Egyptian (I'm probably forgetting something, but still...)

For my own nationals predictions, could someone from State College tell me if today's B team is roughly equivalent to the likely NSC lineup? No. Our B team at PACE will be Christoph and Tom, the two high scorers, Monica, who played on the A team, and another kid who doesn't come to many tournaments...

I totally agree about internal canon expansion, but there seems to be only so much you can do with plot details from three books. Having players be able to recognize increasingly minor characters or plot details doesn't seem as valuable to me as introducing new works
