Could have been more clear in the directions, but i think i get it.

i.e. "just read all 30 tossups" probably would have sufficed.

I guess this is what i get for graduating from, and teaching at, a public school. Can't even follow directions.

I still fail to see how tiebreakers would be necessary. Are you actually anticipating a team scoring 0 for 24 straight questions?

Just want to say that this was a really really interesting read with so many theoreticals and hypotheticals.

There are no perfect solutions to this but the best thing is that we're talking about it, trying to figure out what it is best to do. That's that matters.

So we read all 30 questions, but only 24 of them have possible bonus questions offered?

Is there some sort of horrific incident that prompted this? Not a big deal to me, just wondering why this is so necessary. I've had my info on my sig since day one, but i guess it's kinda a good idea...

All rankings are whack... Byko's ratings are probably the least whack of the bunch... We're way overrated on NAQT's... You could/should do this with the NAQT ratings to give you an interesting (if possibly accurate) comparison.

Already forgotten what we got but i think it was about 1250.

I will say that i have heard many many teams make sexist comments during competitions, especially for the "all girls team." There is often an aura of low expectations surrounding female players too, clearly a sexist attitude. And that "they only know Literature" or equivalents.

I think lists work just fine, especially for mid-range teams looking to get a leg up. I read questions from them as well, and i've exhausted the NAQT "You Gotta Know" lists with great results in NAQT tourneys. I've had several students who, on their own, have essentially memorized informat...

I've had numerous of my not-so-bright students ask me what Academic Bowl means, wondering aloud "is that, like, smart kids bowling?"

Calling it "Quiz Bowl" really wouldn't alleviate those problems. But Academic Team or Quiz Team seems a little better.

As a quiz bowl player in high school (for 4 years) and college, and now a coach at my alma mater for the third year... Henry Gorman is the best player i've ever seen. And we still have to put up with him for one more year after this. Here's hoping he doesn't fail his senior year just to beat everybo...

Just wanted to say that i've been coach of a high school team for more than 2 years, this is only my third year teaching ever... and i don't get paid an extra dime for Academic Bowl coaching.

And i don't believe i'll ever ask for any extra money either.

We get no funding for anything, and it's been 5 years since my high school paid for anything for the Academic Bowl team. We have to pay our way to every tournament.

Will additional moderators be necessary? I've been told by many (including Bill Tressler of Charter) that i'm one of the better readers for the tournaments my school attends, but i'd really rather not read if i didn't have to. I'll pitch in if necessary, however.

Caesar Rodney's coach speaking (yep, from Slower Lower Delaware), and yes almost certainly we would be interested as long as there are no scheduling conflicts. It would be nice to have a true elite Fall tournament to attend to more fuller prepare for the grind of Winter.
