Bloggin' about you-know-what

The day has come. NAC 2009.

About to leave for the Sheraton. Should be fun. I'm getting up extra early to get there for the hot breakfast buffet. I like food.

Rumor has it that there's free internet, which is good.

And isn't it a little overkill to have 3 HSAPQ events in October (if you include perhaps Oct. 17)? Gotta save some for later, you know. Well, if there are three sets for the fall, it seems sensible to make sure they all get used. All the other possible dates are already taken with high-quality tour...

Re: PACE NSC: format changes, 2010 information

I'm quite pleased that my unamusing parody of Cato the Elder can stop after only two posts. I like the new format very much, except that I think the distribution is somewhat odd. In particular, 15% each of RMP and FA seems like too much. Perhaps this belongs in a separate thread, but one of the few...

I was once one of NAQT's strongest supporters, so I never thought I'd be saying this: I agree with everyone in the quizbowl community that PACE is far more legitimate than NAQT. The rounds at PACE are too long, but the questions actually test academic knowledge, not Wheaties. I'm in the same boat. ...

I think it's a fine idea, but I'm 100% with Nick on this--it should be after a normal tournament. A stand-alone trash tournament in high school is promoting the wrong thing, I think. Rather than having it in the Spring, when many Illinois quizbowlers are unfortunately in "the off-season" (...
