I'll agree with Frankel, et. al., that "Mongol leader" clues, in general, are terrible. But -- and correct me if I'm wrong -- don't competitions such as It's Academic, ASCN, and sometimes NAC use questions like that? Yeah, I know, the population of this board generally ignores or criticize...

But hey... at least the poll drama keeps that competitive quiz bowl spirit alive for the summer! Oh, and for my two cents -- I'll agree that nationals are important, but for teams like Walton and Milton, who competed a lot in the reg. season against teams who did go to nationals (and competed agains...

I would be interested to hear people's impressions on the relative strength of the fields of NAQT vs. PACE. It seems to me that PACE might have had a little stronger field. The top 7 or 8 teams at NAQT were at PACE. Plus, teams like Richard Montgomery, Eleanor Roosevelt, Raleigh Charter, Gonzaga, N...

Agree with Joey about the "dead heat" thing, though when we played Walton they were rather unimpressive (0-2 vs. us). However, winning 5-A states has to count for something. We're 1-1 with Brookwood, though we're 0-1 in tournaments with decent questions and working buzzers... so I guess I'...

Maybe the reason for not as much physics is that not all high schoolers need to take physics. At least in Ga., only "a physical science" (other than Chem, which is its own area) is required--usually either Physical Science (mostly Earth Science, I think, with some elementary physics) or Ph...

I heard that rumor too. But the people I've met seem nice enough... We'll see. But there's enough of us from this board, maybe we'll make it better!

pps. You won't beat me in math quick recall unless somebody on my team wouldn't buzz in on math (yet another excuse why we lost in the finals) The frequency and quality of posts by Kentuckians seem to be diverging at a disturbing rate (More posts -> Lower quality). Self-promotion is up, too. And th...

I think this would probably best fit under Misc. HSQB; it should have its own thread, though, because, as Laszlow noted, it has distinct information from "seniors"... but it definitely doesn't seem to fit under Theory. Matt will handle that, though. As for me, I'm going to the Univ. of Geo...

gee, I wonder how many people from Dunbar voted... It's not just Dunbar people, it's probably most non-Kentuckians. Dunbar travels more than anybody else from Kentucky, and they're very successful when they do. Even though Gov's Cup is a different format from most of what we see Dunbar play, I thin...

I'd say Brookwood has been the strongest of those teams this year, though Milton has been impressive as well. I can't remember their head-to-head record, but with two good teams, anything can happen. Walton is solid but I think will be much better next year. BUT! One further note... I think we shoul...

As I said, I don't know much at all about the college game but what I've heard. Sorry for misunderstanding. Though perhaps this perception (untrue as it is) contributes to many HS players electing not to play in college. Thanks for setting me straight, and I hope more people get the message.

Hey I'm a naive HS player who isn't in college and doesn't know anything about the college game. That said...I think (if I decide to play at "the next level") I could (didn't say "will") be a decent or even "good" player. When you look at the ACF question archive or che...

What if you had something similar to the ESPN/USA Today College Football Poll, where a ton of coaches vote? Maybe open it up so that one coach per school can register to vote--no matter who or where. (Of course, if s/he submits a ballot that is garbage, such as heavily and unreasonably favoring his ...

Ah, I'm sorry, I think I forgot how to read.

I read that "end of my 25th year" as "end of my 25 years". So I think Mr. Barry will be back after all.

Thank goodness! lol

Regardless of what bimmerman says, in high school bowl players are EXPECTED to behave as representatives and ambassadors of their school to others. Regardless of what he thinks of the matter, he is still seen as such. Most definitely. That's why I, for one, always check and recheck my posts to make...

In Georgia, the only really dominant team I saw was Walton. Brookwood, Milton, and Parkview fielded solid, even good teams, but nothing like the teams of 2001. I see a resurgence of Brookwood dominance in 2003-2004 for this state, with Walton graduating so many seniors. A couple things I'm wonderin...

I'm in 100% agreement that teams should come first, even if that's not how my last post came across. I'm not a huge fan of keeping individual stats or having other all-star recognitions, because they tend to make some players feel they need to worry more about that than the team's overall score. May...

Re: Georgia Overall Champions

I wonder how one could fairly determine which team would represent your state for any tournaments like the Panasonic national, assuming you sent a non-all-star team. Any opinions? Well... you could send an all-star team instead. I know that's not the point of the question, but... wouldn't a team of...

Re: Georgia Overall Champions

It seemed to cheapen the class championships to have an overall champion. I agree with that move. While I think it would be interesting to see who would come out on top, I think it means a lot to be able to come back to your school and say "We're the State Champions!" without having to pu...
