I've never seen this happen when it was made clear that it was not allowed. I figure let all the teams move players around however they want and let them all try to guess what the others are doing. In swiss systems it really doesn't matter anyway. Of course, if the tournament is bracketed or has var...

Howard's Siesta Bowl tentative date 1/29/05
Howard High School in Ellicott City, MD is pleased to announce that they have selected 1/29/05 as the date of their Siesta Bowl tournament. Although we would have found it preferable to write our own questions and use our own format, we feel we would be unable to do a quality job and have thus decid...

Taking a little from what Matt W said, at our tourneys (Vanderbilt), it seems like the better teams don't care for the trash as much as the weaker teams. There are obviously exceptions, but has anyone else noticed that? I think you're right on the money. There needs to be some sort of happy medium....

I don't think I'd do it at one of my tournaments (at least not to the extent that substantial trash knowledge is required) to do well on a worksheet or category round. But that's my tournament, not someone else's. If I were to include such a category in one of my tournaments, the questions would at ...

I think you guys are all taking this a little too seriously. If you are experienced enough to know that you don't think trash should be a part of quiz bowl then you are also experienced enough to know that every tournament has it's own flavor and style. The purpose of going to these tournaments is f...

Any events near Baltimore/DC on 1/29, 2/12, or 2/26/05?
As our originally planned date for a tournament, 4/23/05, has been taken by Richard Montgomery, Howard High School (Ellicott City, MD) would like to know whether anyone in the area is planning an event on 1/29/05, 2/12/05, or 2/26/05. Not as messed up as you might think. I advised the tournament organizers that we would have nothing close to our regular team there and I suspect they seeded us accordingly. How unfair can a team really complain that power seeding is in a four section tournament. Take the top four teams. Put them in brackets. Take the next four. Put them in brackets. If you structure the brackets something like 1, 8, 9, 16; 2, 7, 10, 15; 3, 6, 11, 15; and 4, 5, 12, 13; then even if you ...

I'm with laszlow on this one. The random thing makes it all the more likely that the top teams will be fighting among themselves for a chance at the top bracket. I'm also not sure what you mean by dividing into a top bracket and a bottom and having the bottom half of each bracket play each other. Do...

At the Spotswood tournament, our B team beat teams like Blake and Lee to get to the finals, and we then beat Gonzaga (who had beat our A team in the semifinals). We're sending a B team to NAQT and PACE. Thomas Jefferson has more "good player" depth than any team I've ever seen. I have wit...
