One of my teammates once protested a bonus for liberal bias. We got the question right, but he protested anyways.

(The bonus DID blatantly attack some conservative figure or another, to be fair.)

Re: Side Event: Schindler's Lit

So, with seven packets, my thoughts are: We get 8, 16, or 24 teams, break into 4 brackets of 4, play three rounds. The top two teams and the bottom two teams from each bracket are sorted into two sets of parallel brackets of four; three more rounds and then a crossover game to decide final placement...

Considering the demand seems likely to outstrip the number of staffers, we will probably not be able to do doubles, unless people would be interested in some sort of four-doubles-teams-per-room schedule. I'm going to tentatively say quads. People can start forming teams here: https://docs.google.com...

Loyola Academy Spring Tournament (LAST) 4/13

Loyola Academy in Wilmette, IL will be hosting a mirror of the JAMES set, co-written by Thomas Jefferson HS and LASA, on April 13th, 2013. Due to staffing constraints (ICT is this weekend) we'll be instituting a soft cap of 12 teams, playing a full round robin for 11 games + ACF finals. If there is ...

You can see that the set was pretty reasonable at the bottom of the field. All teams were over 10 ppb, and I saw plenty of exciting-looking scoresheets throughout the day, even in the bottom bracket. On the other hand, I think this tournament was too hard at the top. The top bracket teams were all ...

As is, double-round-robin in Standard and round robin + playoffs of four and four in Competitive gives everyone ten guaranteed matches, maintains the existing divisions, and has minimal rebracketing delay. Of course, more teams signing up could make combining a more viable option.

The leadin to the Atlas tossup was non-uniquely identifying; it essentially stated "This figure's brother Menoetius was thrown into Tartarus", which thus applies to Prometheus and Epimetheus who are the brothers of Atlas.
