Re: GATA Forums

Not to be a downer, but was it really necessary to publicly post these things? The Internet publicly posted them long before Cody did; Cody just sped up the process of finding that freely available information for the rest of us. Plus, it wouldn't do to have the GATA Forums "secret and parochial".

Re: SCOP Mirror at NIU 10-30-2010

Luckily, since there's human beings in charge of running this tournament, they will be able to distinguish between "novice" and "seasoned" players. All these technicalities are kinda absurd, why would someone who is an elite player that just happened to miss both nationals want to play a super-easy...

Re: Question About Rules

The latter seems dumb because unless your teammate actually said something, it doesn't seem like that's conferring. The former has happened various times and it sucks. In instances where two answers are literally being said, there's nothing you can do, that has to be a neg. What if both answers are...

I've tried both Word and IE.

At home I have Word 2007 and IE 8 (I think) running on a Vista machine.
Here at my high-tech office I am running Word 2003 and IE 6 on an XP machine.

And also remind teams that are on the fence about coming down or mirroring the tournament, the two previous tournaments are both available on Wastebin. It must be my technical idiocy at work, but when I open the files on Wastebin all I get is a bunch of xml tags with random questions sprinkled thru...

Re: 2010 National Tournament of Academic Excellence

If PACE NSC or HSNCT's question were to somehow fuse with NTAE's logistics, scholarship money, and Disney tickets, then it'd be the best thing ever. FACT. National tournaments are meant to crown a national champion. If you want to spend a few days having fun, feel free, but don't expect NAQT or PAC...

Re: Universal Pronunciation Guide

Guess what, they're going to spend 10 seconds doing it anyway unless the pronunciation guide is right there in the text. And since we're never going to have a tournament done two weeks before the deadline so we can go in and write pronunciation guides for all the problematic words, we'll never get ...

Re: DWI - University of Delaware - 03/06/2010

This sport, invented in 2006, has an annual World Cup which in 2009 was held at Middlebury College. Each team has seven players on the field at once, and each of those players must wear a cape. Lacrosse goggles are recommended to prevent eye injuries from wayward broom handles. The match ends when ...

Re: IHSA Regional Results and Discussion

Good answer lines are, regrettably, few and are between for IHSA Regionals. You can't tossup say, Wole Soyinka, because 90% of the teams playing will have no idea who you are talking about, no matter that he is very canonical. And yet, a tossup on someone as obvious as Mark Twain isn't sufficient e...

Did it cause a vast swath of players to neg? I agree with you in principle (and prompts for every reaction and possible class described at every point before the later sites), but does this hold up in practice? I didn't moderate this packet for any teams, so I don't know myself; I could go over sco...

Re: TIDUS: The Son of JECHT (tentative)

I came all the way from Cleveland with this tournament as my priority. After the first two rounds at lunch, I was told the tourney would resume at 6:30-7. I came back then, and was told that it would either be postponed or cancelled due to the lateness of the academic sets (which I was not particip...

On the home page, in my opinion, it would look better if the tournaments were ordered by date, i.e.: http://img504.imageshack.us/img504/5042/likethisr.png Also, something to consider is underlining and changing the color of "here" to a link in the boxed region (yes, I know you can click anywhere, bu...
