Re: Keystone State Invitational (March 30-31, 2019)

Is this tournament separate from the tournament earlier than the tournament earlier in March that is posted on NAQT's site https://www.naqt.com/registration/field ... nt_id=9532 or will it be replacing that?

Re: Downingtown High School East Invitational

The form does not allow 0 as an option for the number of open teams, novice teams or buzzers. What do we do if we are not bringing anything/anyone in one of these categories?

Re: Allderdice Invitational- (01-27-18) IS#168

Hello, I have two questions. First, what do the numbers in your previous post indicate? I would assume that the first number is the number of teams and the second the number of buzzers, but I am confused because we are bringing a buzzer and no number is listed in the second column for us. Second, si...

Pennsylvania State Academic Coaches Association

To all PA schools (both current and prospective quiz bowl members): PSACA is up and running. We have had our non-profit status approved, and we now have a website up and running http://www.psaca.org/ . We expect to have our first newsletter out in a few weeks. We encourage everyone who currently is ...

Re: Pennsylvania Tournaments 2017-2018

First, a bunch of updates have just been made to the listings above (including a tournament announcement).

Second, could a mod please unsticky the tournament list for PA from last year and replace it with this thread? Thank you to anyone who can and will do this!!

Re: NLN III @ Penn State University (10/7/17)

Hi, I'm just asking some clarification on your eligibility rules, both because my team has a strong possibility of coming to this tournament and because I think other teams might benefit from the clarification. Do your three rules for players being eligible interact, or are they independent of one a...

Re: NAQT vs PACE

3. The distribution is different. An average NAQT packet has 1.7/1.6 pop culture, 1.9/1.8 geography, and 1.8/1.7 current events, whereas other sets tend to have less of those things. NSC has no pop culture, .5/.5 geography, and .5/.5 current events. On the other hand, an average NAQT packet has 1.6...

Pennsylvania Tournaments 2017-2018

The Pennsylvania State Academic Coaches' Association (PSACA) was formed at a meeting last week to promote quiz bowl in the Commonwealth. We are modeled in large part after associations in other states such as Illinois, and our goal is to encourage as many quiz bowl and academic coaches as possible t...

Re: NAC going pyramidal?

HAHA. Your answers are sad but not surprising. I'm glad I made this thread, for simple purpose of exposing this for what it is. By the way, having just seen these sample questions, they are pretty bad - certainly not anywhere close to the quality of NAQT or PACE tournaments. It reminds me of the awf...

NAC going pyramidal?

I just got a letter inviting my team to the 2017 NAC. That is not abnormal. I think I get one of those letters every year. However, one sentence in the letter caught my eye: "Please note that our tossup questions are now pyramidal, and are of the same high quality that you are accustomed to." This i...

Re: Changes to NAQT SSNCT eligibility

The soccer analogy, though, does not hold water (unless I know even less about soccer than I think I do). Do the lower football leagues play shorter games or on smaller fields? The SSNCT definitely uses easier questions than HSNCT, which lowers the incentives for small schools to engage in high-lev...

Re: SSNCT and Charter School Eligibility

I don't know what the best policy is regarding charter schools, but I do wonder if the big focus this thread seems to be taking regarding selective admissions might be clouding the issue as much as it's illuminating it. Perhaps curriculum is important. While I am by no means an expert regarding char...

Re: Changes to NAQT SSNCT eligibility

I think that there are two arguments running concomitantly here (and on the thread Lee Henry started), and that one is productive and one is not. The first argument is over whether NAQT's changes to the SSNCT qualification formula and to the set-up of the field are good changes. This is an argument ...

Re: CSWIFT, Charter School of Wilmington (DE)-1/24/15 [DATE

Hi, is it possible if we could have an update on this tournament (i.e. number of teams registered, spots remaining, etc.)? I ask because I noticed that this tournament is not listed on NAQT's schedule. Is it still on? Is it still using NAQT questions and rules? Thanks.

Re: 2015 NAQT SSNCT: April 25-26, Atlanta

Thanks for letting us know the date. When it comes to small schools, I don't think any date is perfect. Speaking for my own team, my players tend to be committed to quite a lot of activities at once, so most weekends potentially conflict with something else. I don't think there's any way to avoid th...

Re: 2014 NAQT Small School NCT: May 3-4, Minneapolis

Call me insane (given the response this seems to be getting from many (most?) other schools) but I'm looking forward to this. My school has 500 students in it from grades 9-12. We are quite tiny compared to the average high school. We have to play teams from schools four or more times larger than us...

Re: 11/23/13 Sagacity X – Pittsburgh, PA

It was a very well run tournament that my team enjoyed playing in immensely. I can't tell you all the standings (we finished somewhere around 7th out of 25 teams), but the real story of the tournament was a deep Fisher Catholic team beating Winchester-Thurston (led by the ever impressive Nathaniel B...

Re: Battle of the Burgh XVI - University of Pittsburgh - 4/6/12

For future reference, is it at all possible to have Battle of the Burgh announced/invitations being sent out further in advance? Fisher Catholic usually attends this tournament, but since this was announced so late, that window closed and we can't go now (well that, and the fact we're attending a c...

Travelling with large trophies - a logistical problem

First of all, I apologize if this has been answered in an earlier thread. I did do a search to find another thread on this topic, but then again my technical skills are rather subpar. Last year my team had the great fortune to get 3rd place in the small school division of HSNCT. The players were thr...
