Re: Need help convincing my coach to get us to tournaments

These are all good suggestions, I would add one more: if you do host a tournament, don't overdo it--especially if you do it on pyramidal questions. Be especially sure that you (with Chris' assistance?) get experienced moderators: 24-36 teams should probably be your limit unless you are blessed with ...

Re: Is culinary art a fine art?

We in the sovereign state of Illinois have an uneasy history with this topic. One year, the final bonus of a championship match had the subject of pasta shapes. This was problematic not only because of its placement in the packet, but such shapes can vary by size (tortellini vs. tortelloni), name (p...

I also liked the old NSC format. And Lee, the caterer probably put dark meat in the chicken salad [this is a joke only Southerners will understand]. I think what happened with a lot of changes is that a number of people decided that quiz bowl should become more streamlined, but not everything went t...

In many cases, I think it's probably due to coaches retiring, transferring schools, or leaving education, and their successors might not be interested in continuing the tournament. Brad, I can shed some light on this. My experience has been that once the person on a "one-person" team graduates, the team tends to fall apart, and it is often several years before they rebuild.
