I'm scrollbowling through Packet 11, and in Q16 on Belgium, the lead-in of "“A gamer from this nation goes by the alias “Ex6Tenz" and is arguably the best Counter Strike: Global Offensive player in the world." is super inaccurate. I voted "insular" and "lack of professionalism" FWIW. I think the forums are, as many have pointed out, very self-selecting in who participates and don't necessarily reflect the broader attitude. Powers are great. Conor's post summed up the advantages nicely. It's a way to demonstrably reward players for depth of knowledge. For specialists in particular, a 2-0-1 statline looks and feels much better than a 2-1 statline with identical buzzes. I'd even say this is more important on harder sets...

Re: What is the most pressing concern in college quizbowl to

The only problem is, more people are playing pyramidal quiz bowl these days than ten years ago, so given a single tournament, question difficulty might never find a happy medium between an upper echelon of more familiar and studious teams and the vast majority of everyone else. The toss-up on "red" drawing on Asian art had a mistake, I believe, in the title of the Castiglione painting.
