Re: What's the purpose of an advantaged final?
The purpose of an advantage final is to balance the benefit of a final that provides public display of the best teams and the crowning moment against the detriment of a team going X-0 all day, then losing a one-off final to a team that went (X-1)-1 who they had beaten earlier in the day. And if the...

What's the purpose of an advantaged final?
This is a bit of leading question because it was motivated by a specific situation today where the pre-determined tournament format of prelims, playoffs, and super-playoffs, followed by an advantaged final, yielded the following final standings in 30-team field; 1.) Anytown A 12-2 (5-0 in prelims; 3...

OK. I had been assuming that someone like UChicago would be setting up a mirror, but that seems to just not be on the table. Moreover, the date of ACF Fall is a conflict with a statewide 'novice' event. It's disappointing that Illinois teams will miss the chance to play ACF Fall this year.

Mr. Garber seems to have no appetite for rewriting the gameplay rules, presumably without input from the Advisory Committee. Mike Laudermith is a gold standard moderator at any tournament, whether it's a middle school tournament, or HSNCT, you can be confident that if your team loses, it wasn't because of something he did. To be clear, it USUALLY isn't a mod's fault, but Laudermith leaves you NOTHING to complain about! ;-)
