I can see not allowing a student to play solo since there is a Bee division specifically for that but I don't see any reason that teams of two should not be allowed. Not all students - especially middle schoolers - have the confidence to compete on their own. Or even enjoy competing on their own. If...

Perhaps they modified bonuses so they only have two parts, which I understand is fairly common in Georgia? If your principal agrees to pay for a quiz bowl coach, he/she should be able to find a faculty member at your school who would be willing to take on that position. At least in Georgia, teams that go to tournaments on a regular basis generally have coaches who are paid a supplement/stipend.

Also my sources in Georgia tell me that Centennial is stomping the field there (not that anyone's surprised), and are averaging between 26 and 27 ppb.
