Re: ACF Nationals 2019 discussion: Question Content

The history was also good, although I thought there were a few issues with balance between different topics. I found there were too many tossups that focused extensively on French kings in the Middle Ages and Renaissance in this tournament; 3 strikes me as excessive. In the packets I played, I don'...

Re: ACF Nationals 2019 discussion: Question Content

I enjoyed the music in this set quite a bit and thought the subdistributing was generally very good both by era and by genre. I think that a tossup on each of Josquin, Tallis and Couperin might have been a bit much, especially considering that Bach didn't come up in the packets I played. There also ...

I'll also note that the revised later date will make it much easier for Canadians to attend given that it is pretty much after our April exam season finishes. The earlier date in past years has been a barrier for several people who've wanted to attend Nationals.

I know I'm ranking myself higher than th...

Re: CMST: General Discussion

Overall I very much enjoyed this tournament--thanks to the editors and writers. I particularly enjoyed the thought questions, and very much appreciated the prominence given to modern theorists, although I will note that at times the tossups could seem a bit too much like lists of academics and their...

Re: PB 2017: Specific Questions Discussion

I thought there was a lot of good writing in this set in my categories (history and classical music, mostly). I particularly enjoyed the tossup on the Seljuks and the bonus on Nazi-era conductors. That being said, there were several questions that I think had some issues. The hieroglyphics/Egyptian ...
