Where are you going next year? (Collegiate 2019)

To quote Jacob O'Rourke from last year: it's that time of year again where people start to hear back from transfer applications, grad school apps, job offers, landlords, etc. and make plans to go places. Here is a thread in which current college players or members of the college quizbowl community c...

Re: PIANO / Minnesota Open @ UMN, 3/30

I'm not sure if things have changed since I was a minor poobah (an Abba Dabba Doo Guy) at UMN, but we never were able to reserve rooms in Blegen past 4 PM. This generally did not matter at all, aside from the fact the rooms would lock and you had to be careful about that. When I first started at UM...

Thanks for the transparency! Points 1, 3, and 4 are all well-founded in my opinion, and I at least have no issue with them. 2. To wit, NAQT's approved formats page says: NAQT provides questions for 16 rounds of play at SCT tournaments. I thought NAQT makes hosts rank teams by all games played. The hosts of this tournament did not realize that NAQT's policy is to consider all games when ranking teams. This tournament will be held on NAQT's Division II SCT set. This set is more difficult than a typical high school set; NAQT designates it for use at state championships. It will likely do a better job of distinguishing the top teams than a typical Invitational Series set, but we want to make sure pe...

SCT placement policies

There's been some confusion over exactly how NAQT determines placement for SCT -- whether it is based on overall record, or playoff-only record. Jeff indicated that NAQT intends to solve this issue over the summer, but in my opinion it needs to be solved now, because it materially affects the D-valu...

Miami-Ohio A and Notre Dame A are listed as tied for 5th in the Michigan site despite Miami-Ohio having a better record.
